Leave instructions for the person staying behind #
A travel handoff covers the responsibilities you normally handle, the best ways to reach you and what to do if your return changes. Focus on the actual dates of the absence. Share itinerary details only with people who need them, rather than putting your travel schedule in a broadly shared household index.
Write the normal plan and the delayed-return plan #
Many handoffs work for the expected weekend and fail when the trip is extended. Include the backup arrangement now.

Close the handoff when you return #
Tell helpers that responsibility has returned to you, review anything that changed and update your permanent household instructions if the trip exposed a gap. Remove temporary access arrangements when appropriate. Keep the next handoff easier by preserving the reusable instructions separately from this trip’s dates.
